Materials
Quick-setting cement mix
Plastic bottles of various sizes (e.g., small water bottles)
Scissors or craft knife
Mixing bowl
Stirring stick
Cooking spray or petroleum jelly
Acrylic paints (optional)
Paintbrushes (optional)
Small pebbles or buttons for eyes
Twigs for arms
Fabric scraps for scarves
Directions
Cut the tops off the plastic bottles to create molds of varying heights for your snowmen.
Coat the inside of each bottle mold with cooking spray or petroleum jelly to ensure the cement doesn’t stick.
Mix the quick-setting cement according to the package instructions in a bowl.
Pour the mixed cement into the prepared bottle molds, filling them to the top.
Tap the sides of the molds gently to remove any air bubbles and ensure the cement settles evenly.
Insert small pebbles or buttons into the cement for the snowman’s eyes, and twigs for the arms.
Allow the cement to cure according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This usually takes about 24 hours.
Once fully set, carefully cut away and remove the plastic bottles from the cement snowmen.
If desired, paint the snowmen with acrylic paints to add details like a carrot nose, coal buttons, and a hat.
Finish by tying a fabric scrap around the neck of the snowman as a scarf.
Variations & Tips
To add a personal twist to your cement snowmen, consider using different sized bottles to create a family of snowmen. You can also experiment with different textures by embedding small stones or seeds into the surface of the cement before it sets. For a more colorful display, use vibrant paints to create whimsical designs or patterns on the snowmen. If you prefer a natural look, leave them unpainted for a minimalist aesthetic. Additionally, instead of using fabric scraps, you could knit or crochet tiny scarves and hats for a cozy, homemade feel.
