I board the plane, find my row, and immediately see my seat basically turned into a construction site. The whole thing is taped off, plastic over the headrest, tools everywhere, a giant OUT OF SERVICE tag hanging on it like it’s a broken vending machine.

Then the flight attendant looks at me and asks if I’d be willing to switch seats because of “maintenance.” I’m standing there holding my ticket while my actual seat literally has a DO NOT OCCUPY sign taped across it. What exactly am I supposed to say, no?

They always phrase it like you have a choice, but the seat on my ticket is locked up with chains and warning labels like a crime scene. There’s a caution sign, wires exposed, maintenance manuals spread across the other seat.

So yeah, I just stared at the setup and told her obviously I’m not sitting there unless they want me to finish the electrical work too. Funny how airlines act like you’re “switching seats” when the one they sold you clearly stopped being a seat hours ago.
